Located on the corner of Absolon St and Dawson St, next to the Dumbleyung CRC

The statue was commissioned by Rob McDougall who raised funds for this very unique sculpture of Donald Campbell to be made. His inspiration and determination for his vision lead to his success in raising the funds by collecting and selling yabbies, along with receiving donations from wonderful people. The custom built cabinet housing for the sculpture was built locally and funded by our community. The illuminated cabinet highlights the beauty of the unique sculpture medium complementing the Bluebird precinct’s night time display.

This extraordinary sculpture was created by Ivan Lovatt using galvanised chicken wire, a medium that lends itself to sensitivity and delicacy. By layering, twisting, shaping and pinning this very ordinary medium, Ivan creates both abstract and realistic representations. The wire, with its hexagonal shapes can provide a good deal of structural integrity, and by layering and using different gauges of wire it is possible to create very large sculptures.
